We can’t talk about 2021 without mentioning COVID-19. Many industries were shaped to some extent by the pandemic. We hope that during 2021, we will be closer to the end of the pandemic than to the beginning, focusing on thriving in the future rather than responding to the present.

Since its inception, Satellite Communications (SATCOM) have found a plethora of applications, including IP-based video streaming & broadcasting, mobile backhauling” ,”SNS gathering etc. Nowadays, following the evolution of Internet Protocol based applications, the SATCOM is currently going through a transformation phase refocusing the system design on data services, namely SATCOM Broadband Services which is the journey of SUMMERNET.

We are looking forward to pursuing a policy of investment and innovation in SATCOM systems for bringing the digital revolution across entire ASEAN region through highly advanced next generation ultra-high throughput satellites by 2025. To put this endeavour into perspective, we will operate the most advanced ultra-high throughput satellites in the Geosynchronous Orbit, utilizing V-Band for the feeder link and Ka-Band for the user link, to provide SATCOM broadband services for lifting the unconnected society to achieve fair level of broadband access to improve its quality of life and closing the digital divide in the ASEAN region.

We are preparing for the challenges and readiness with implementing the novel architectures and the plans for the space and ground segments with the following motivation: -

The rapid adoption of IP media streaming instead of linear media broadcasting; and
The urgent need to extend broadband coverage include unserved and underserved areas; and
The communications on the move via SATCOM, providing complementary connectivity to support 5G service on board moving platforms such as aircrafts, vessels, high-speed trains, express buses, and more.

Furthermore, a major milestone of the 5G is the integration and convergence of diverse wired and wireless technologies. In this context, we will significantly contribute to pave the way for seamless integration targeting specific use cases which can take advantage of our unique capabilities.

SATCOM industries have already entered a crucial phase of their evolution, mainly motivated by the explosive growth of various Internet-based applications and services, which have triggered an ever increasing demand for broadband connectivity with high data throughput, heterogeneous, and ultra-reliable. We are looking forward to introduce our unique features and technical advances in the field, we strongly believe that our space mission will be a cornerstone in satisfying this demand as an integrated next generation Satellite-Terrestrial Network.
